Therapeutic Social Groups

The Path to Friendship

One of the things that sets Pathfinder apart from other ABA companies is our dedication to helping our clients build meaningful relationships with similarly-aged peers. Our social groups are the perfect place for lasting bonds to form in a safe, structured, and supportive environment. During the course of a social group we teach skills such as:

  • Body orientation when interacting with others
  • Social engagement through reciprocal conversations
  • Problem solving and negotiation
  • Leisure play engagement
  • Structured turn taking game engagement
  • Good sportsmanship
  • Flexibility
  • Group cooperation
  • Reading others' body language
  • Responding appropriately to peer emotions
  • Leading and following peers in play
  • Making and keeping friends

Our social groups are often conducted within community settings such as the mall, a local park, or other age-appropriate social "hang out" place. This helps to generalize these skills to more meaningful contexts where they are likely to need these skills outside of therapy. These groups consist of 2-3 similarly-aged peers carefully matched together based on skill level and interests.

Since social groups are formed based on client skills and interests, we always encourage interested parties to contact us to see if a best fit for them currently exists!
